Influential Presentations
Introduction
Have you ever noticed that some speakers, presenters and trainers just seem to be more inspirational and engaging than others? Have you ever wondered what it is that they do and how do they do it?
Perhaps you can cast your mind back to your experience of school teachers; were some easier to understand than others? Can you notice the different styles they had? Did you change teachers and your results changed?
We have a tendency to explain things the way we understand them. If people don't 'get it', we explain it again the same way - maybe just a bit slower and louder. Your audience will have different learning styles and many of them will be different to you. Would you like the flexibility to connect and communicate with them all?
Intention
- To bring to the awareness of the participants that people differ in the way they like to receive information, and how to effectively utilise these differences
- To provide an experience of simple and natural language and body language techniques to engage and inspire an audience
Methodology
- Elicitation of current contexts and requirements
- Demonstration of effective delivery of a challenging topic chosen by the audience
- Explicit input of the techniques for delivering a balanced and engaging message
- Exercise to construct and deliver an influential message with these techniques
- Feedback and discussion in the context of further real scenarios
Explicit content/techniques
- Structuring messages for all processing styles using The 4-MAT system
- Captivating attention with sensory description (images, sounds and feelings)
- Using story telling, metaphor and 'quotes'
- Reinforcing communication with body language techniques
Outcomes
- Construct a message that engages every personality type within an audience
- Utilise the words and behaviours that guide the experience of the audience
- Deliver an effective presentation or influential message
Logistics
- This session can be run as a 180-minute 'nugget' or as a one-day training course
- We like to use two facilitators for the 'nugget' version of this session - optimum number of attendees is 12 the maximum is 24
- For an optimal training environment we prefer a theatre style room layout with plenty of room for participants to move around
- Equipment requirements are a flip chart (necessity) and a projector/screen (optional)
