Change and the Individual

Introduction

Have you ever noticed that people react differently to change. Do some people seem more resistant to change than others?

Change messages are often constructed form the perspective of the strategic leader. Consequently an organisation may have a tendency to communicate 'the change' in a future focussed way rather than what the change means to the individual today.

We as individuals evaluate changes based upon how they affect us personally. However, when an individual is 'stuck' in the change process we continue to communicate the benefit of the change rather than addressing the obstacle.

You can facilitate the process of change by recognising where the individual is on 'the change curve' and providing the support and challenge to make them comfortable moving forward.
