Coaching Toward Objectives and Values

Most businesses do not fully exploit the value of their values.

We know that having clearly defined objectives (what you as a business want to achieve) and values (how you want to achieve it) can be very empowering. Some organisations use values successfully to drive behaviour. Values and high-level intentions are 'big picture' and therefore flexible enough to drive behaviour in an empowering way.

However, some businesses struggle with the ambiguity of values and make them more specific. As soon as you specify what the value looks like, even if you are just offering examples, you have changed the value from something tacit and empowering into something explicit, limiting and prescriptive.

Some coaches are effective in using values and objectives to drive performance; others find it more difficult to get their people to genuinely connect with them. We can show you how to facilitate to following process:

  • Helping the individual genuinely connect with the 'bigger picture' intentions and values of the organisation
  • Discovering the individual's personal behaviours and abilities that are in line with the values and intentions
  • Exploring these behaviours and abilities in specific contexts and coaching to add more options
  • Guiding personal objective setting that is psychologically compelling
